John Henry Lang, 77, of McGregor, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 1, at his home in McGregor, Iowa. 

He was born Sept. 17, 1937 in McGregor, to Ernie and Isabel (Coffman) Lang. John graduated from Mar-Mac High School, McGregor, Iowa in 1956. He was united in marriage to Janann Hallberg on May 3, 1958 at Swede Ridge Lutheran Church in McGregor, Iowa. 

John worked in Cedar Rapids for 9 years before moving back home to McGregor. He was employed by the City of McGregor as a police officer and also worked for the Street Department for 4 years. John was then employed by the Clayton County Secondary Road Department for 26 years. He was known to many as “Johnny Roadgrader.” John was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and being on the river and in the woods.

John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janann of McGregor, Iowa; two sons, Randy (Jennifer) Lang and Ron Lang, both of McGregor, Iowa; two granddaughters, Natasha (Cody) Mezera of Prairie du Chien, and Tabatha (Aaron) Stoddard of Plattville; one great-grandson, Parker Mezera of Prairie du Chien; three sisters, Ernestine Schultz of Castalia, Iowa, LuAnn Kregel and Carlean Lettington both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Robert Lang of McGregor, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Isabel (Coffman) Lang; one brother, Bill Lang and his mother and father-in-law, Henry and Marie Hallberg. 

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa. There will also be one hour of visitation before the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa with Pastor Harold McMillian as the officiant. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
