Christopher A. "Chris" Pierce, 67, of North Liberty died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Christopher Allen Pierce was born Feb. 17, 1948, in Guttenberg, the son of Maurice and June (Davis) Pierce. He graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1966 and later from the University of Dubuque with a B.A. degree in business. During the Vietnam War Chris served his country in the United States Navy. Chris married Kathy R. Sapp on Dec. 8, 1990, in Campbellsville, Ky.

Chris, Kathy and their family lived in various places through the years, and Chris worked in a number of occupations throughout his life. But those that he was most proud of were his days growing up working alongside of his parents and siblings in the family business of Pierce Lumber, a sawmill in Guttenberg. His most recent job was his business, Fibrenew; also one that he was so very proud to have done. Chris was a man of strong faith, always active in his church wherever they lived. In Iowa City he and Kathy have been strong members of Faith Baptist Church. Chris loved the outdoors from his childhood, hunting, fishing and boating, anything outside. But most important to him, was his family, his faith and his friends, and those who knew Chris knew this!

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; his children, Todd and his wife, Kimberly, of North Liberty; Angela and her husband, Jason Hedican of Gridley, Ill.; and Kris and her husband, Scott Pauli of Eldridge; eight grandchildren; Chris's siblings, Glee Palmer-Davis (Denny) of Hansville, Wash.; Janet Broeg of Springfield, Mo.; Mitzi Valentine (Ron) of Plano; Jeff Pierce (Vicki) of Belle Plaine; Mick Pierce (Carolyn) of Guttenberg; Jim Pierce of Belle Plaine; Joe Pierce (Pat) of Rogersville, Mo.; Paul Pierce (Cindy) of Coronado, Calif.; Terry Pierce (Adrianna) of Marion; mother-in-law, Martha Sapp-Kessinger of Campbellsville, Ky.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Dick Broeg; and father-in-law, Doug Sapp.

A memorial fund has been established in Chris's memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web at www.gayandciha.com.
