Seven MFL MarMac students represented the newly-formed North Clayton Shooting Team at the Iowa State Trapshooting Meet held on June 10 and 11. Participants attempted to shoot 200 targets with one round of trap consisting of 25 clay targets.  Each day, an hour was given to shoot at 100 targets.

This year’s trapshooting team members included:  Amber Adney, Tessa Detra, Keaton Dettman, Samson Elledge, Taylor Gerndt, Shane Hexom, Nolin Lang, Derek Larson, Alex McNally, Caleb Overton, Dillon Pitzner, Austin Ruff, Brandi Schneider and Avery Smith.

The Iowa State Trapshooting Meet results were:

·Keaton Dettman: 22, 19, 22, 24, 19, 20, 22, 24 = Total 172

·Samson Elledge: 21, 17, 19, 23, 20, 20, 18, 22 = Total 160

·Derek Larson: 18, 20, 23, 23, 19, 21, 22, 19 = Total 165

·Alex McNally: 19, 20, 23, 19, 22, 23, 25, 24 = Total 175

·Caleb Overton: 19, 21, 20, 24 = Total 84 (one-day only)

Austin Ruff: 20, 17, 21, 18, 21, 21, 19, 23 = Total 160

Brandi Schneider: 14, 13, 11, 13, 12, 16, 13, 13 = Total 105

Due to the generosity of the Allamakee Sportsman Club in Waukon, and individual donors, the team was able to operate as a completely self-funded organization. The MFL MarMac School District also provided a monetary contribution to the program this year.

The Allamakee Sportsman Club allowed the team to use their facilities for practice, with the only stipulations being that the team be responsible for supplying the clay targets, picking up empty hulls and clay targets and disposing of them properly.

A potluck will be held in September (date to be determined) with a dual purpose of an awards banquet and recruiting for the upcoming year.

Coaches Joe Milewsky, David Ross and Jim Ruff were pleased with the success of the first year. Team members learned to safely handle a shotgun, learned the value of doing their own fundraising, had fun making new friends and improved their scores throughout the year.

The team is appreciative of everyone’s enthusiastic support in the first year of the North Clayton Shooting Team.  The team looks forward to another successful season in the 2016-2017 school year.
