Richard A. “Dick” Ginsterblum, 93, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24.

 

He was born July 5, 1924, in Prairie du Chien the son of Anthony and Amy (DeMuth) Ginsterblum. Dick was a WWII Navy Veteran and was proud to have recently been on the Honor Flight. He married Rose Fishler on April 25, 1959, in Patch Grove. Rose preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1997. Dick worked for General Telephone for 40 years as a linesman and switchman in Portage. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, golfing and especially the Cubs. His biggest goal was to live long enough to watch the Cubs in the World Series. He had close ties with famil;y and friends and enjoyed many conversations with them. 

 

He is survived by his sons, Randal and Richard (Jenny) Ginsterblum; sisters, Sr. Joan Ginsterblum and Marian (Walt) Carroll; extended family of eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Fr. John, Donald and Neil; and sisters, Helen Watson, Ann Sheridan and Alice Farris. 

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Oct. 27, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded graveside by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call on Thursday, Oct. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be a wake scripture at 7 p.m.
