A driver attempting to drive on Blackhawk Avenue, which was closed for the Holiday Parade in Prairie du Chien Friday, was arrested on suspicion of OMVI, according to the Prairie du Chien Police Department.

At about 6:20 p.m., a Prairie du Chien police officer, who was working traffic control for the annual parade, witnessed a vehicle approach the parade route and attempt to gain access to Blackhawk Avenue. The officer approached the vehicle to inform the driver of the temporary street closure and give an alternate route. Upon reaching the driver’s door, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the driver, Jessica Jerde, 27, of Waterford, to be in possession of marijuana.

Jerde also admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day and was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance. At the time of contact, there were two passengers in the vehicle, including a 4-year-old child. Jerde was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
