Barbara LaVonne Schultz, 82, of McGregor, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, at her home in McGregor. 

 

Barb was born June 25, 1935, to Floyd Frederick and Ethel Irene (Limbeck) Huff in Marquette, Iowa. She was baptized on June 22, 1938, and confirmed on Sept. 23, 1951, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church (Swede Ridge) Church. Barb’s family lived in several northeastern Iowa communities and she attended various schools including, the Oakland Country School, McGregor Public School, Guttenberg Public School and graduated from Mar-Mac Public School in 1953.

 

On Aug. 1, 1953, Barb was united in marriage to John “Jack” Walter Schultz in McGregor. Two children were born to this union of sixty-four years, Andrew Lee and Jacalyn Jo. Through the years, Barb worked for several McGregor area businesses, including Hoseley’s dress shop, the Mallard Café, the McGregor Electronics, as well as the Great River Care Center as a nurse’s aide. She and Jack together ran the Pike’s Peak Concession Stand for twenty-five years. 

 

Barb was a member of the First Congregational Church of McGregor all of her adult life and participated in the Merry Mixers, Hoe-Downers and Hustler Square Dance Club. Barb most enjoyed spending time with her family including the many trips to Arkansas; taking her grandchildren to the Clayton County Fair and Rendezvous Days in Prairie du Chien; and especially their Christmas Eve Soup Suppers. Barb loved going on her early morning walks, all of the animals, especially her cat Tigger, gardening and delivering hot meals with Alice.

Barbara is survived by her husband Jack Schultz; two children, Andy (Mary) Schultz and Jacki (Michael) Schultz-Sloan, all of McGregor; nine grandchildren, Michael John (Alex) Sloan, of Fayetteville, Ark., Nicholas (Bethany) Sloan, of Batesville, Ark., Chelsea (Jon Kruse) Sloan, of La Crosse, Wis., Jessica Sloan, of McGregor, Matthew (Amanda) Schultz, of McGregor, Kevin Schultz, of Monona, Nathan (Bridget) Schultz, of McGregor, Natalie (Tyler) Thompson, of Monona, and Cassandra (Jerad Peak) Schultz, of Boscobel, Wis.; ten great-grandchildren, Ollin and Jack Sloan, Levi and Brooklyn Schultz, Mason Schultz, Abram and Patrick Schultz and Tacoma, Jaxton and Brinlee Thompson; and sisters Beverly Huff, of Toledo, Ohio, Judy (Jerry) Kuchenbecker, of McGregor, and Terri (David) Kleinow of Harpers Ferry.

 

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ethel Huff; sister, Mary Kurth; brother-in-law, Milton Kurth; and one nephew, Timothy Kleinow.

 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 29, at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor. There will also be a one hour visitation prior to services at the church on Saturday. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, at First Congregational Church, McGregor, with Rev. William F. Gentry as the Officiant. Burial will follow at a later date in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, is helping the family with arrangements.
