Fern Clara Scheffert, 91, of Garber, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Services were private. Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Fern was born on July 29, 1927, on the family farm on Bear Creek in Elk Township, the daughter of Orlando and Clara Krieg.

She attended the Musfeldt County School and later graduated from the Elkport High School. On May 7, 1946, Fern was united in marriage with Donald Scheffert. Together they farmed and raised their four children. Before her marriage Fern worked for John Deere in Waterloo on one of the first computers and during the war she was transferred to another building where she manufactured landmines. Fern’s greatest joy was her grandkids and great-grandkids and the last one to visit her was always her favorite.

Those left to cherish Fern’s memory are her children, Darla (Dick) Zittergruen and Dale Scheffert; grandchildren, Rachel (Jake) Moser, Kenny (Trina Valley) Larson, Katreena Larson, Mindy (Robby) Errthum, Molly (Adam Duart) Zittergruen; great-grandchildren, Preslie (Nathan Falat) Moser, Maddy Moser, Dustin Larson, Jason Larson, Colten Zittergruen, Maloy Errthum, and Liam Duart; son-in-law, Arnie Larson; siblings, Diane (David) Hansel, Dean Krieg and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Dennis Scheffert; daughter, Donell Larson; siblings, Mary Krieg, Anita Finnegan and Eugene Krieg.
