Rilla F. Oppriecht, 94, of rural Eastman, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at the Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien.

Rilla Fern Kramer was born May 2, 1924, on the Shanghai Ridge family farm, rural Eastman. Rilla was the 10th of 11 children born to Hubert and Mary (Brady) Kramer.

Rilla walked to, attended and graduated from the 10th grade at the Eastman Elementary School. She then went to live in Milwaukee with her sister Grace and worked for the Allen and Bradley Company. Her picture was the cover photo for their May 1946 Company Gossip magazine.  On Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1946, Rilla married Gregory Oppriecht and moved into his family’s farm home. There, Greg and Rilla raised a family and farmed together for 65 years until Greg passed away on Nov 17, 2011. Rilla will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, whose homemade pies, cookies and cinnamon rolls were often served at 4 p.m. with coffee and good conversation. She will also be remembered for her perfectly chosen greeting cards, addressed with her flawless handwriting and sent to relatives and friends on their special occasions. Rilla was an excellent seamstress who made pajamas for everyone at Christmas time, created outfits for herself and her daughters and even made a bridesmaid’s dress or two. Her children and grandchildren will always remember the times she joined them in those late night euchre card games.

Rilla is survived by her six children, Mary (Russell) Steiner of Prairie du Chien, John (Susan) Oppriecht of Ferryville, Jerry (Diane) Oppriecht of Eastman, Jane (Tony) Solon of Ankeny, Iowa, Kate (Roy) Schroeder of Apple Valley, Minn., and Greg Oppriecht of Lynxville; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law; her brother Richard’s wife, Delores Kramer; sister Maria Oppriecht, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Rilla was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son in 1948, and a 5-year-old daughter, Theresa, in 1955; her parents; her seven brothers; Charles, Roy, Howard, Richard, Chester, LaVern and Willard Kramer; her three sisters, Floy Fisher, Nona Sutton and Grace Ohm; a granddaughter, Jenni Steiner; and a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Check.
