Phyllis M. Steiner, 88, of Prairie du Chien, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health, with her family by her side.  

She was born June 17, 1930, in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Eva (Beckman) Noehl. She married her sweetheart and loving husband of 64 years, “Lefty” Laverne Steiner on May 30, 1953, at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien. Together, they raised five children:  Brad, Dirk, Brian, Gerri and Jennifer. Phyllis was also involved in the daily operation of the family construction business and The Alaskan Canadian Fur Trading Company.  She was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Church and an avid Cubs and Badger fan.  

Lefty preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 2017.  

She leaves behind, to treasure her memories, children Brad (Jeanette), Dirk (Janet), Brian, Gerri (Bruce Strnad), and Jennifer (Jeffrey Nack); 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Duane Noehl; her sisters, Delores Noehl and Betty Doubek; a daughter-in-law, Kathy (Brian); and great-grandson, Xavier (Alexander and Angela).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Thursday, March 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, where there will be a wake scripture at 7:30 p.m.
