Melissa L. Wilke

Melissa Lue Wilke, 66, of Elkader, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. She joined her heavenly father following a courageous battle with cancer. Melissa Lue Clark was born on May 25,1954, in Independence, to Donald and Margaret Clark. As a young child, she moved with her family to a farm near Clermont. She graduated from Valley Community School in 1972, and then completed the secretarial program at the Area 1 Vocational School in Calmar.

Audrey J. Healy

Audrey Jule Healy, 81, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Elkader, died peacefully at her home on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Audrey was born on May 18, 1939, in Chicago, Ill., to Morton Louis and Grace Jule (Benge) Romie. She graduated from Central High School in Paddock Lake, Wis., with the class of 1956. Following high school, Audrey attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for a brief time.

Randy A. Morarend

Randy Alan Morarend, 59, of Edgewood, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, at his home. He was born on May 27, 1961, at the Guttenberg Hospital, completing the family of Delois and Lois (White) Morarend. Randy was a graduate of Central High School in Elkader. Shortly after graduating, Randy served honorably in the United States Army.

Joseph A. Vlazny

Joseph Anthony Vlazny, 63, died suddenly on Feb. 5, 2021, on the family farm in rural Farmersburg. He was born Aug. 3, 1957, in Fairbank. He attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and graduated from MFL High School in 1975. He was raised Catholic and was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where, as a young boy, he served as an altar boy and played the organ.

Robert G. 'Bob' Davies

Robert Griff (Bob) Davies, 69, of McGregor, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, at his home in McGregor. He was born Oct. 27, 1951, in Iowa City, to Towyn and Pauline (Hanft) Davies. He graduated from Washington High School and received his B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa. He married Joann Burns on April 17, 2001.

Gregg G. Frieden

Gregg Gene Frieden, 55, of Elkader, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at his home after battling lung cancer. Gregg was born Aug. 18, 1965, in Manchester. He grew up in Littleport, the son of Doug and Lerene (Thein) Clinton. Gregg had four siblings, Brad, Colleen, Tracy and Branch. He graduated from Central Community High School, Elkader, in 1983. Following graduation, he worked at a factory in Prairie du Chien, Wis., but found his career working road construction for Fred Carlson Co. Carlson’s changed hands a few times, but Gregg stayed with the company, now called Croell, until he could no longer work in 2020.

Thomas C. Perry

Thomas Coast Perry, of Volga, was surrounded by the love of his daughter and sisters the last days of his life. He passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2021, in hospice care at MercyOne Medical Center in Elkader. Tom was born on April 16, 1941, to Louise and Thomas Perry. The family resided in Columbus Junction and enjoyed many fun times at their cabin on the Iowa River.
